Welcome to the Game III has a named protagonist, interactive competitors, a tutorial connection, and several physical threats. The difficult part is not finding names online; it is knowing which names come from Reflect Studios, which appear in Steam's released-game data, and which are maintained by the community.
This index keeps those evidence levels separate. It is intentionally spoiler-aware and does not copy character biographies, appearance notes, gallery images, or ending summaries from the community wiki.
Evidence notice: Last checked July 19, 2026. Simon's first name and premise are first-party facts. Steam achievements confirm several other first names and systems. Full names and some roles below are community-used labels that this site has not verified through hands-on inspection of the game.
Character evidence at a glance
| Person or group | Strongest evidence available | Safe conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Simon | Official Steam store description | Simon is the player character placed into “The Game” after building a debt |
| Four NPC competitors | Official Steam feature list | Four interactive NPCs compete in the same race and can buy, sell, help, or attack through game systems; the reviewed store copy does not name them |
| Ronald | Steam achievement data plus a community character page | Ronald is connected to the tutorial; the community describes a larger returning role, but that biography is not confirmed here |
| Lucas, Tanner, and the Breather | Steam achievement data | These three names belong to released-game encounters or threat-related achievements |
| Noir, Tucker, Cletus, and the Kidnapper | Multiple community sources | These names recur in player material, while their cues and counters remain community-reported |
| Bomb Maker | One versioned Fandom article | The community reports a separate bomb event; its exact trigger and rules are not independently confirmed |
The table is a source map, not a complete cast list. “Community-reported” does not mean false; it means the reviewed first-party and platform data do not close the claim on their own.
Simon: the first-party-confirmed protagonist
The official Steam description names Simon and supplies the central setup. He has taken on a debt with people who will not accept non-payment, and poor decisions force him to play “The Game.” A larger wager allows the organizers to make the night more dangerous.
That evidence supports a concise character description:
- Simon is the playable protagonist named by the official store page.
- His debt is the immediate reason he must search for the puzzle pieces.
- His objective is tied to surviving and resolving that debt.
The community wiki calls him Simon Zhao. This site records that as the community-used full name for search and cross-reference purposes, but the reviewed official store text confirms only “Simon.” The wiki's height, appearance, and expanded story details are not repeated here.
Ronald: tutorial connection, larger role unverified
Steam's achievement list includes Ronald's Approval for completing the tutorial and another Ronald-titled achievement. That is sufficient to connect the first name Ronald with the released game's tutorial and at least one other tracked outcome.
The community wiki uses the full name Ronald Evans and describes him as a returning character with a tutorial-host role. Much of that page also recounts Dead Signal, prior relationships, appearance interpretation, and story events from outside WTTG3. Those cross-game details are not imported into this page.
For a new WTTG3 player, the useful conclusion is narrow: Ronald is a name to recognize during the tutorial. His surname, full history, motives, and exact role after the tutorial still need first-party or hands-on confirmation.
The four NPC competitors
The official store page confirms four interactive NPC competitors. It says players can chat with users to buy and sell goods or services, decide whether to advance themselves, and spend resources to slow or attempt to remove rivals. The competitors can act against the player through the same broad system.
The reviewed first-party copy does not name those four competitors. This site therefore avoids matching community character names to the four slots without stronger evidence. For system-level guidance, see the separate NPC competition and trading explainer.
Threat names confirmed by Steam
Steam's achievement data independently confirms three encounter names:
Lucas
The achievement list associates Lucas with a specific death condition. That confirms the name and hostile relationship, but it does not document Lucas's ordinary cue, entrance route, hiding rules, or community-used surname Kumiega.
Tanner
Two achievements use Tanner's name and refer to time spent in Tanner's Crime Scene. This establishes the name and location phrase. It does not verify the community's timing, sensor, or panic-button instructions, nor the surname Grayton.
The Breather
An achievement explicitly refers to fleeing the Breather and reaching safety. That supports the name and a pursuit context. It does not identify every trigger, route, stamina rule, or boundary that the game counts as safe.
The practical counters for all three belong in the community threat guide, where the uncertainty is shown beside each response.
Additional community-reported threats
Several names recur within the live multi-participant Steam discussion:
- Noir is associated with a visual encounter and a look-away response.
- Tucker is associated with repair or music-related reports.
- Cletus is associated with an inventory demand.
- The Kidnapper is associated with reports of a white van near the motel.
Those summaries are only orientation. They do not prove an exhaustive roster, a unique cue, an exact timer, or a guaranteed counter.
Bomb Maker
A dedicated Fandom revision adds the Bomb Maker as a separate reported event. It says that visiting a related site can begin a time-sensitive search for a device that must be disarmed with supplied information.
This site has not reproduced that event. The exact website trigger, timer, device location, code behavior, and failure outcome are deliberately omitted. The entry is included so readers know why the name appears in community lists, not so an untested walkthrough looks definitive.
Why the surnames are labeled differently
Community-maintained pages use the full names Simon Zhao, Ronald Evans, Lucas Kumiega, and Tanner Grayton. Short factual labels such as names are useful for finding related discussion, but their presence on a wiki is not the same as a first-party confirmation.
This index therefore follows a simple rule:
- Use the official or Steam-confirmed first name in factual summaries.
- Show a community-used surname only with that qualifier nearby.
- Do not build biography, appearance, nationality, height, or relationship claims from a community infobox alone.
- Revisit the label if the game, credits, or an official character post confirms it.
What this index does not claim
This page is not:
- a complete cast or threat roster;
- a biography archive for the wider Welcome to the Game series;
- proof that every community-used full name appears in the released game;
- a story or ending walkthrough;
- a map of the motel or every encounter location;
- a guarantee that community counters work after every patch;
- permission to reuse Fandom screenshots, portraits, or gallery files.
Thin or cross-game wiki entries such as Wade and Luna Youngman were reviewed but are not presented as WTTG3 facts because the first-party sources checked for this page did not support that placement.
Source note
Rechecked July 21, 2026 using the official Steam store, Steam's global achievement data, one live Steam Community threat discussion, and permanent community-wiki revisions for Welcome to the Game III, Simon Zhao, and Ronald Evans.
The page is an original evidence index. It cites the community's naming work without copying biographies or media, and it keeps community-used labels separate from first-party and released-game platform facts.
